Proxy violence is the use of a representative or alternate force to achieve violence against a target without committing a direct assault, and often without looking guilty of anything. There are types of proxy violence which are societal, but today we’re going to focus on individual use of it. This is usually an extreme form of relational aggression, or aggression in which harm is caused by damaging someone’s relationships or social status, ala “Mean Girls,” where a person achieves her violent intent by inspiring, persuading, paying, or tricking someone else into aggression against her target.
